こんにちわ、ボリビア・インターンシップYoichiです。
先月に私は私の学生たちはイギリスおよびオーストラリア英語が理解できないと気がつきました。
たとえ知っている単語でもそのアクセントのせいで聞き取れないのです。
ということで本日は学生たちにイギリス人が話しているリスニングをさせました。
その前に少し私の授業の内容を説明したいと思います。
私は初めの３０分を学生との会話に使います。内容は何でも構いません。
これにより、学生は話すだけではなくリスニングも鍛えられます。
そして次に学生を２人一組にして、会話をさせます。
私は歩き回り、各ペアーに入り、彼らの英語を助けます。
そしてその次に本日のテーマ移るわけでございます。
今回はディクテーション*でございました。

普段は単純なリスニングを行っていますが、数名の学生が難しいのがいい！
とリクエストがあったので、これをやることにしました。
そして予想通り、イギリスアクセントに苦戦を強いられていました。
イングランドではRなどが音の中で消えてりますのです。
私は依然UMSAでのセミナーでこのことを話しましたが、私の学生はまだ慣れていないようですなぜなら授業をするのが私なので 笑
しかも今回はただのリスニングではなく、ディクテーションです。
ディクテーションとは聞いたものを一言一句書き留めるというものです。
学生はとてもイギリス風に発音された単語を聞き取りにくかったよです。
そのエクササイズのあと私はイギリス英語について話しました。
将来的には私は私の学生がどんなアクセントでも聞き取れるようになっていってもらいたいです。
そのためにも私は新しい英語教授法を思いつかなければならないのです！

Last month I noticed my students were not used to British and Australian accents. They cannot even catch words that they know.
So today, I got them to listen to a material I found where an English guy speaks.
Well, I would like to talk a bit about how my class goes.
I typically spend the first 30minutes talking to students about anything.
Students can learn how to have conversations in English.
Then the next 15 to 20 minutes is for a paired conversation. I pair up 2 students and have them talk to each other. I join each group and help them learn English.
Then I move on to what I call "Today's activity".
This time I decided to do some dictation.
Well, I could just have done listening but some students requested harder exercises, so I decided to go for it.
As expected, my students struggled a lot to understand his accent.
In England Rs disappear in the middle or at the end of words, for example.
I talked about this in the seminar I did in the Linguistics department but still my students are not used to that thing because I do classes every time. lol
Also it was not just a listening exercise but a dictation one.
Dictation is where you listen to something and try to write down every single word.
Students could not catch really Britishly pronounced words.
I explained some features of British English after that practice.
I hope my students will be able to understand any accent!
I will keep coming up with new ideas that will help them achieve that goal!
