ラパス独立記念日
こんにちわ、ボリビア・インターンシップYoichiです。
７月１６日はラパスの独立記念日です。
なんで国でもない、ただの都市が独立記念日を持っているの？？
とみなさん思っていることでしょう。
友達に聞いたのですが、僕もよくわかりません笑
ボリビアなのでそれでいいのです。
とにかく、この日は夜通しでサンフランシスコ教会の前でパレードなどが行われます。
といってもグランポデールのようなものではないですが。
ラパス市役所で働いている方々が、行進をしていました。
ところが、このパレードの後はみなさんお祭り騒ぎです。
スクンベと呼ばれるお酒をみんなで飲んだりと楽しいです。
またこのサンフランシスコ教会の前はとても多くの人々であふれており、楽しい雰囲気があふれています。
そしてミッドナイトには花火が打ち上げられ、みんなでその瞬間を祝います。
一体感などがあり、とてもボリビアらしいですね。
アメリカの独立記念日みたいにとても面白いイベントなので、もしあなたがボリビアにこの時期に滞在をするのならば、友達などを誘って、行ってみてください。

The Day of La Paz (La Paz's Independence Day)

So, July 16th was the Independence Day of La Paz.
... I know what you are thinking. La Paz is just a city in Bolivia, and Bolivia itself has its own independence day. How come a city can have an independence day?
I was wondering about that, too! Well, the answer is.... that's how it works in Bolivia! lol ;)
Anyways, on that day La Paz holds a parade by San Francisco Church.
It is not like the one on Gran Poder though.
Basically public officials and local high school students march.
It is not like they dance or anything but just walk.
However, after the parade at night, tons of people show up at San Francisco Church.
They start celebrating the Independence Day with their friends.
They traditionally drink what is called Sucumbé; cocktail of Singani and milk.
There is a lot of music playing and they seem to be having so much fun with each other.
Mid night is when people get more excited. Why? Because fireworks get lit up and blossom in the night sky!
Like July 4th, this is when local people get connected.
If you are staying in La Paz during this time, you should go out with your friends to San Francisco Church and have some Sucumbé while watching fireworks!
That would let you experience the real La Paz!
